WHAT IS STATISTICS AND PROBABILTY?
Before beginning the task your teacher will hand each student an identical paper bag of 10 skittles (colours- red, orange, green, yellow, purple), this will just make the task easier to work through as a group.
Now in Microsoft Word, please type your answers to these following questions.
1. How many skittles do you think are in the bag?
2. Which colour will appear the most in your bag?
3. Which colour will appear the least in your packet?
Once you have guessed your answers you can open your bag, a discussion can take place on what you guessed compared to the actual amount.
Now you have discovered what is in your bag of skittles we can move on with the task. With your bag of skittles, follow the instructions below to complete your task.
1) Using Microsoft Excel create a simple table with 3 columns and 7 rows, as shown below.
2)What colours can you see in the bag of skittles you have been handed? Type the colours down in your table.
3)With your skittles, group all of the same colours together. This step will make it easier for you to count how many of each colour skittle you have in your bag.
4)Now that you can see how many of each colour you have, you can now tally them and type the amount of each colour in your table.
